FAQ

Equipment

A professional company’s solution can be expected to be top notch when it comes to streak free shine and quick dry time. Window cleaning is their livelihood and companies want to be the best in their industry and so they pay for the high quality products. Professional companies also have the ladders and scaffolding needed to reach those high up windows that could be dangerous for you to reach. Between the equipment and training the results are better. When homeowners try and tackle windows themselves they usually complain of streaks and just aren’t as thorough. A professional knows the different cleaning techniques to use depending on the type of window as well.

Time

Maybe you have all the time in the world but certainly there are things other than window cleaning you would rather be doing? Plus, while you may just be a one man army a company coming out will bring multiple people depending on the number of windows you have. While waste an entire day of our time cleaning windows when you can sit back and relax while it’s finished in a few hours by someone else instead!?

Money

Yes, you will spend more hiring a company then you would probably spend yourself. However, having your windows regularly and properly cared for means their lifespan is going to be longer. A build-up of dirt and grime can take years off your windows and so by spending a little each year on maintenance will be worth the thousands of savings down the road. If you don’t do a thorough job on your own then you aren’t helping the longevity of your windows any.

Lake Appeal

You’ll feel better and your home, cottage and especially the lake will look better.

Beyond the obvious reasons, the most important reason for glass maintenance is to avoid glass degradation. glass will, over time, become permeated with a variety of contaminants:

  • hard minerals (from sprinkler systems and building run-off)
  • oxidization (from windows encased in metal frames and screens)
  • acid rain
  • spray, sap ice, snow, sleet and sand
  • over spray (from paint, chalking, mortar and more)

In most cases hard mineral or hard water is the biggest threat to most home and business owners and a great source of extra income for professional window cleaners. the need for basic glass restoration can be avoided with regular cleaning to exterior window glass surfaces.

We recommend two cleanings per year.

Understanding glass:

  • Glass is porous. A cross-section of a sheet of glass reveals peaks and valleys.
  • Glass is a liquid that continues to harden over time.
  • Because glass is porous, it’s easy to understand how it’s transparent look can quickly become obstructed with airborne pollutants.

It’s also understandable how hard water (rain water that runs over a prefabricated surface, i.e. wood stained plank, painted siding, concrete sealant and deposits minerals and acids from those substances into the pores of the glass) can damage glazing if not maintained on a regular basis.

Servicing the islands of the Upper Lakes in Muskoka can be a difficult proposition. There’s a great deal of water to cover and overhead can be steep. As anyone who lives or vacations on an island understands, certain pitfalls come with island residency. The biggest ones of course, are getting everything you need or want to the island and upkeep on a vessel. Charges that a customer should be aware of are: fuel surcharges, travel and our hourly minimum.

Slipped on Rosseau near Clevelands House, Upper Lakes Window arrives by boat. We have GPS, and cellular phones. We should have no trouble finding you.

Some customers tie an orange balloon to their dock prior to our arrival. The best way though, is to give us your Emergency 911 property number. Don’t forget, we will need to secure our vessel to your dock.

Unlike a land based window cleaning company, we charge hourly for the first window cleaning. A standard window cleaning includes the windows, interior and exterior along exterior sills. Screens and frames are extra. Please be aware that steel screens can only be rinsed and any staining left behind by a steel screen can’d be restored by simply washing the window.

Any high-level activity involving ladders is dangerous, but we are professionals with special training in ladder and height safety.

We do respect the workers first right of refusal for any work he/she may feel is too precarious. Some places just can’t be reached. We also can’t work from our ladders in the presence of lightning or during high winds.

We’re outfitted with ladders of all lengths and our preference is always to hand clean your windows. Today, though there is equipment available that can allow us to reach up to fifty-five feet while remaining firmly planted on the ground.

Deionized water is simply water that’s been filtered of its mineral ions like, sodium, iron, copper, chloride etc… When it’s required to reach a significant height that cannot be reached by a person, we use a device that allows us to wash a window using only the water from a hose bib. While we wish we could do this for all homes and cottages, we can’t. Your home must be able to provide enough pressure to feed the unit.
